Open-Source: Power to the People!

After reading Software Industry vs. Software Society: Who Wins in 2020? I decided to post an entry about the open-source softwares phenomenon.

Theses software are developed for and by the people around the world. They are mostly free to use and most of the are found on the website of the SourceForge.net community.

I have to admit I am biased because I use a lot of open-source softwares because of their quality. They are updated regularly and freely. Because they’re free, the number of users is huge and increases each day. Therefore, if you need help, there’s a big community out there to help you. Isn’t it fantastic? :)

Here’s a list of the open-source softwares I use:

  • Mozilla Firefox
  • foobar2000
  • Inkscape
  • VLC Media Player
  • Frostwire

There are many more out there and you can learn more about them at www.sourceforge.net
